In the world of design and constantly searching for new inspirations and ideas, encountering people who create whole new genres is very inspiring. Looking at Asya and Dimitri Kozin's art you get instantly charmed and, when the first impression calms down, you simply cannot believe that all of their work is made solely and completely of PAPER. In their work you can find different art directions completely living in peace and great beauty one with each other.
Their art touches the modern time as well as ancient ballrooms and castles. We wanted to know more about them so we could dive more deeply into their world. We had the luck to catch a bit of their time and to have a small interview.
Where are you from? Where does the art journey start for you?
We are Asya and Dmitry Kozins. Asya from Ukraine. Dmitry from Russia. We have been married for almost 10 years. Asya began to engage in paper art in 2007, it was already the level of the group and personal exhibitions. After we got married, we began to work together, since Dmitry is also an artist by education.
What is the first emotion that drives you towards creating an art piece? Do you recognize the connection immediately and let yourself flow on the creative process? Or do you "bake" the inspiration for some time?
Both formulas apply to us. As for the idea, this often happens spontaneously and some projects often appeared inspirationally. On the other hand, when you have a project that you are working on, you should methodically do it to be on time by a certain date.
What is the back story of your design? Because every one of us sees the world through separate lenses. How hard it must be to transfer it to other people?
In the light of recent events, it has become more obvious, our art is about the fragility of the world and at the same time how beautiful it is, how fragile and beautiful fashion is, art history we think that paper as an artistic material conveys the fact that all this is fleeting, but it is still more beautiful.
What do you prefer, single pieces or storytelling through a whole project? And what approach do you use in each case?
We do not separate one from the other, of course, when this project is large enough it is very interesting because you have to find different interpretations you value more ideas. But on the other hand, when this unusual idea is an unusual one-time order, it can push us to a completely unknown topic. For example. So we made Barocco punk.
Why do you use certain materials? What connects you with them, and makes you feel they are perfect for your art piece?
The paper gives a lot of different tricks. To infinity, you can come up with something new. At the same time, we can use its creation of works of sculpture, and as a subject of design, the paper gives us a lot of advantages.
What does ART, in general, mean to you?
Is like philosophy, as a science, it helps people to take a fresh look at old things or discover something completely new and unknown!
